SVRTC Offers Free Active Directory Training to Twenty-one Members

Twenty-one Information Technology (IT) professionals from thirteen SVRTC school divisions participated in Learning Tree’s Active Directory training the week of March 25-29, 2019 in South Boston, VA. This training was provided at no cost to the participants by Southern Virginia Regional Technology Consortium (SVRTC) and Longwood’s Institute for Teaching through Technology and Innovative Practices (ITTIP). In the Active Directory training, participants had 5-days of hands-on instruction and practice administering with Active Directory technologies. They learned how to better manage and protect data access and information, simplify deployment and provide more secure access to their division’s data.

The participating school divisions were Brunswick, Cumberland, Charlotte, Danville City, Greensville, Halifax, Henry, Hopewell, Mecklenburg, Nottoway, Patrick, Prince Edward, and Prince George.

Members Receive Updates from VDOE & MBC at April Meeting

The SVRTC was well represented with eighteen school divisions (Amelia, Appomattox, Brunswick, Buckingham, Charlotte, Colonial Heights, Cumberland, Danville, Dinwiddie, Franklin City, Greensville, Halifax, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway, Petersburg, Prince Edward, Sussex) present at the April 18, 2018 SVRTC meeting.

Members welcomed Mark Saunders, Director of Technology and Virtual Learning, with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). Mr. Saunders’ presentation included information on the state technology plan, Intel Tech Online Courses, Open Education Resources, Computer Technology Standards and the eLearning Backpack Funds.

Lauren Mathena, Director of Economic Development and Community Engagement, with Mid-Atlantic Broadband Communities Corporation (MBC) also addressed the members. She educated members about MBC’s initiatives with the FIRST Robotics program in a Powerpoint presentation. Lauren explained how MBC supports the FIRST Robotics program and emphasized what an important component the FIRST Robotics program is for our area for enhancing workforce development starting at the secondary school level.
