{"id":1964,"date":"2024-01-10T15:33:05","date_gmt":"2024-01-10T20:33:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/svrtc.org\/?p=1964"},"modified":"2024-01-10T15:33:06","modified_gmt":"2024-01-10T20:33:06","slug":"computer-science-strategic-planning-initiatives-for-svrtc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/svrtc.org\/index.php\/2024\/01\/10\/computer-science-strategic-planning-initiatives-for-svrtc\/","title":{"rendered":"Computer Science &#038; Strategic Planning Initiatives for SVRTC"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SVRTC met for their monthly meeting on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 including 15 members in attendance with representation from the following school divisions: Amelia County Public Schools, Brunswick County Public Schools, Cumberland County Public Schools, Danville Public Schools, Dinwiddie County Public Schools, Lunenburg County Public Schools, Mecklenburg County Public Schools, Nottoway County Public Schools, Petersburg City Public Schools, and Prince Edward County Public Schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:22% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"256\" height=\"256\" src=\"http:\/\/svrtc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/article.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-197 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/svrtc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/article.png 256w, https:\/\/svrtc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/article-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/svrtc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/article-230x230.png 230w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 256px) 100vw, 256px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first speaker for the meeting was Kristin Hott from<a href=\"https:\/\/www.codevirginia.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Code VA<\/a>. Ms. Hott presented on how <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/presentation\/d\/1tqTY6m5Hhs9lKhOU-_qbecT3qNwUv9G0ihE68aAJxFc\/edit?usp=sharing\">Code VA supports different programs<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.codevirginia.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Code VA<\/a> partners with schools, families and communities to bring equitable computer science education to all of Virginia\u2019s students. They partner in grants, they partner in kind and they receive funding and seek out grants for the various needs of the divisions. Ms. Hott mentioned that if you want your school involved more with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.codevirginia.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Code VA<\/a>,  you can make a connection request.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second speaker, Tammy Hobson, an independent contractor that consults with <a href=\"https:\/\/alplearn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Advanced Learning Partnerships<\/a> in Virginia, talked about strategic planning. Ms. Hobson shared the why, how and what the strategic planning for the SVRTC is about. She went on to discuss the two pathways to achieving the \u201cwhy\u201d. The first area, <em>network events<\/em> &#8211; would involve the superintendents and business leaders. The second path would be <em>communities of practice<\/em> &#8211; which would involve the division leaders or student directors in the school systems. The \u201chow\u201d is planning what you would do during the meetings with the superintendents or division leaders and how to get them on board with your plan.
