On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, members of SVRTC came together for the Cybersecurity Rubric Masterclass, led by Dr. Tina Barrios and Dr. Vince Humes. The session brought together 23 members representing 8 school divisions: Amelia County Public Schools, Brunswick County Public Schools, Cumberland County Public Schools, Danville Public Schools, Lunenburg County Public Schools, Petersburg City Public Schools, Pittsylvania County Public Schools, and Prince Edward County Public Schools.
This free, one-day workshop—provided by the Cybersecurity Coalition for Education (CCE)—offered timely, relevant training to support K–12 districts facing increased cybersecurity threats, tight budgets, and limited staff capacity. The Masterclass aligns with SVRTC’s ongoing mission to bring professional learning and practical resources to local school divisions.
During the session, participants explored six key cybersecurity domains, using case studies and real-world scenarios to guide discussion and deepen understanding. The hands-on format encouraged peer-to-peer collaboration, giving members the opportunity to connect lessons to their own district contexts and identify next steps for improving local cybersecurity efforts.
Thanks to thoughtful instruction from CCE and the shared expertise of attendees, SVRTC members left the session better equipped to support their schools—bringing home new tools, strategies, and a clearer understanding of how to strengthen their cybersecurity posture.
