Open: Nominations for the 11th Annual SVRTC Technology Awards Banquet

SVRTC is excited to announce the 11th Annual  Technology Awards Banquet.  This annual banquet provides an opportunity for school employees and one school division to be recognized  for their exemplar work in instructional technology, technology leadership and technology support.  Currently, the consortium is accepting nominations from the SVRTC division partners for the following awards:

SVRTC Technology Division Award

SVRTC Technology Leadership Award

SVRTC Technology Teacher Award

SVRTC Instructional Technology Support Award

SVRTC Technology Support Award

More information can be found on the SVRTC Banquet application flyer. Please make sure your SVRTC division is represented by submitting your nominations by February 17, 2017.

The awards banquet will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Longwood University in the Nance Room of the Dorrill Dining Hall. Upcoming information regarding registration will be announced in the upcoming month.

OCR Website Compliance

Fourteen SVRTC divisions were in attendance at the January 18th, 2017 meeting, including: Amelia, Appomattox, Buckingham, Cumberland, Dinwiddie, Franklin City, Hopewell, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway, Pittsylvania, Prince Edward, Prince George, and Sussex. SVRTC members had previously expressed interest in learning more about website 20170118_105457accessibility and compliance standards. The consortium invited the company, Siteimprove, to present.

Patrick Mengelkoch, Account Executive and Keith Bundy, Digital Accessibility Consultant and Trainer for Siteimprove treated members to a presentation on how to make school websites more accessible by creating an online environment in which all users, not just those with disabilities, navigate a website. Mr. Bundy, with his guide dog by his side, gave an excellent demonstration on how a blind person maneuvers through a typical website using a screen reader. Mr. Bundy and Mr. Mengelkoch gave an introduction into website accessibility. Mr. Mengelkoch discussed steps on how to become optical character recognition/reader (OCR) compliant.
